Lot 154: Siyouni ex Starlet's Sister

Siyouni full-brother to Sottsass becomes fourth-ever lot to sell at Arqana August for €2m+

ARQANA AUGUST

THE Siyouni full-brother to the Arc winner Sottsass, and half-brother to the Grade 1 winner Mysistercharlie, is bought by Japanese trainer Yoshito Yahagi for €2,100,000 (Lot 154).

It is the second time that dam Starlet’s Sister has produced an Arqana August Sale seven-figure sale – in 2020 her Dubawi daughter was bought for a sale-topping €2,500,000 by Oliver St Lawrence.

Consignor Henri Bozo of Ecurie des Monceaux was understandably emotional, proud of both the mare and the team at home.

“I have great pride that he is going to Japan, with Japanese racing going so well, it is new step and I find it very interesting,” he said, adding: “I am so grateful of this mare and the team at home

Underbidder today was David Redvers, who was standing with Sheikh Fahad.

The colt becomes the fourth yearling to ever sell at the August Sale for €2 million or more.

Yahagi, who was underbidder on the Day 1 Shamardal top lot (Lot 21),  was very excited about his purchase.

“I love his pedigree and I love his body. We will take him back to Japan and hope to win the Japanese Derby,” said Yahagi. “He is for a client I can’t name, he is fairly new to racing ownership.”

Yahagi later went to €560,000 for the Kingman colt out of Waldjagd (Lot 184) sold by Domaine de l’ Etang.

He is a grandson of Wurftaube, the dam of Deutsches Derby winner Waldpark and grnad-dam of Masked Marvel and grea grand-dam of Waldgeist.
