Press release: record price of €300,000 tops Strong Sportsman’s Day One

From Goffs

A new record top price of €300,000 capped a superb opening day’s trade at Goffs Sportsman’s Sale where turnover increased by 54% over the first day last year and average and median grew by 32% and 50% respectively.  The clearance rate was 89%.

The highest-price ever achieved at a yearling sale in Ireland outside of the Orby Sale went for Lot 713, a beautiful daughter of Ten Sovereigns consigned by Abbeville Stud on behalf of Peter and Carol Henley who co-bred the filly with Eric McDonnell.  David Ryan struck the winning bid on behalf of Rabbah Bloodstock and Kilfrush for the filly who is a out of the winning Invincible Spirit mare Saucy Spirit, making her a half-sister to Cadamosto who was Stakes placed at Saratoga this season and also finished fourth in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

Other fillies in great demand on Day 1 at Sportsman’s included Wraymount Stud’s Sioux Nation half-sister to Listed winning juvenile and Sportsman’s graduate Manhattan Jungle (Lot 741) that sold for €90,000 to Emma Chilcot and Get In The Game, while Ken Condon went to €80,000 for a well-related daughter of Territories from Hollyhill Stud (Lot 702).

American interest has been one of the themes of the week at Kildare Paddocks and that continued today as Torie Gladwell of Top Line Sales signed for two €70,000 Ocala-bound yearlings, securing an Invincible Army colt from Coulonces Sales (Lot 535) and a Ten Sovereigns filly from Castlehyde Stud (Lot 653).
