Press release: €2.6m own-sister to Blackbeard tops electric opening day at Goffs Orby

From Goffs

The highest-priced yearling at any of the major international Autumn yearling sales headlined an electric opening day at the 2022 Goffs Orby Sale as Glenvale Stud’s own-sister to Blackbeard (Lot 93) sold to Richard Knight for €2.6 million following a protracted bidding duel with Goffs US agent Jacob West.  The exceptional daughter of No Nay Never out of Muirin looks every bit as promising as her Group 1 Middle Park and Prix Morny-winning brother and is set to go into training in the UK.

Spirited demand from a huge host of international buyers at Kildare Paddocks returned a strong clearance rate of 88% with major increases across all key indicators.  Turnover was up 37%, average rose by 25% to €129,269, while median was up by 33% over the corresponding session in 2021.

Newtown Anner Stud secured the second highest-priced yearling of the day when going to €750,000 for a daughter of Galileo, the first foal out of Queen Mary and Prix Robert Papin winner Signora Cabello, from The Castlebridge Consignment (Lot 215).

Mountarmstrong Stud’s Night Of Thunder half-sister to the Group 1 Matron Stakes winner No Speak Alexander (Lot 164) was another highlight from the opening session when selling to BBA Ireland for €525,000.
