Midnight Ginger takes the mares’ opener at Newbury
AFTER big race success was enjoyed by the late sire Midnight Legend in the Welsh National on December 27 with The Two Amigos, his daughter Midnight Ginger (Midnight Legend) slogged through the mud at Newbury to win the mares’ hurdle.
Bred by the Holmes’ Pitchall Farm, who stood the son of Night Shift for his nine-year stud career, the six-year-old is trained by Andrew Martin and was ridden by his son James, who claims 7lb. She is another proving the sire’s prowess with mares and fillies. She was conceived in his final year at stud, a year before he died.
Midnight Ginger is the seventh foal out of the Mtoto mare Calamintha and is a sister to seven winners, the best of which is West Cork (2014), rated 140 and won the 2021 running of the Grade 3 Greatwood Hurdle.
