Dark Angel colt from Grangemore Stud hits the £200,000 mark

Goffs UK Premier Sale

Lot 251: Grangemore Stud gets a fine pinhook result with this son of Dark Angel – the colt was bought for 40,000gns at the Tattersalls December Sale and sells for £200,000, bought today by Ross Doyle for trainer Richard Hannon.

Guy O’Callaghan recalls his purchase of the colt as a foal: “I did not expect to get him for that, when he became available he just had to be bought, and we always support our sires.”

He continued: “He is a master horse, I am delighted with him, we are thrilled he is going to such a good home with Richard Hannon. I am very fortunate position to have a couple of Dark Angel colts to sell, I wanted to separate them and this was my most forward horse of my bunch and I thought he’d suit this sale well.”

Of the Yeomanstown Stud-based stallion, O’Callaghan said: “Every year Dark Angel delivers, he is the gift that keep on giving. We are very lucky to have him. I have another 22 yearlings for the rest of the year, plenty of Dark Angels and Invincible Armys – and his stock have been well received, they are good looking horses.

Of the Goffs UK Premier Sale so far, he said: “It has been a brilliant market, genuinely, if you have the gear you get well paid here. There is strength and depth. To get 12 six-figure horses yesterday and a 91 per cent clearance rate is phenomenal, trade is very buoyant.”
