Cheltenham dreams come true for Weveallbeencaught’s owner Jimmy Wenman

WEVEALLBEENCAUGHT, who finished third in a Grade 2 prize at Cheltenham in November when 10l behind Hermes Allen on his hurdles debut, went two places better today and made owner Jimmy Wenman’s dreams come true.

The gelded son of Getaway cost £210,000 at last year’s Tattersalls Cheltenham January Sale and was the top lot of the session. He was bought by the trainer with  owner Jimmy Wenman, who reported then that the dream was to see him run up the Cheltenham hill in front.

After achieving that target today, there may well be another date in March on the agenda for the six-year-old after his a front-running victory in the opening Ballymore Maiden Hurdle on New Year’s Day.

The gelding, bred by Conor Murphy, is the third foal out of the Anshan mare Curvavious and was sold last winter by Michael Kennedy Racing after a win at Dromahane point-to-point on his career debut, still owned then by his breeder. He went on to win his bumper at Newbury last March.

The winning trainer said: “That was superb. He just does enough which is great. That trip is short enough for him but he pulls out what he has to, he is idle. That is the boring things us trainers say, but he is one for the future. He is a chaser look at the size of him – you only have to see the way he jumps and he is a big powerful animal. Surely hurdles aren’t really the things he is made for as he has won a point-to-point. It is very exciting.

“With a horse like this you need softer ground and trying to find it has been difficult.”

Looking ahead to future targets Twiston-Davies insisted that he would be working back from the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle at The Cheltenham Festival on March 14.

He added: “There is the race at Doncaster (River Don) and the Prestige at Haydock Park. He doesn’t have to have three (miles) but he will be better over three we think.”
