Lot 67: the eye-catching Havana Grey filly sold by Hillwood Stud makes 85,000gns, bought by Middleham Park with Ed Sackville of SackvilleDonald.
“Obviously Havana Grey from this sale has been a recipe for us before so we have tried to repeat it,” said Tom Palin of Middleham Park referencing the syndicate’s Somerville Sale graduate, Super Sprint winner and Molecomb Stakes (G3) fourth-placed Eddie’s Boy, who cost 45,000gns here last year.
“Obviously Havana Grey is a more established sire now than this time last year so we have had to pay more!
“But this filly is from a family we have followed and bid on a couple before. She is a particular stand-out for the sale and from that pedigree, chuck in a bit of Havana Grey as well!”
Palin added: “She stands out, everyone loves a grey and she is quite fun example. She is a good solid, nice-moving filly and nicest Havana Grey we have seen here. She is a strong horse, too and we saw her on our own and then Ed put her to us. the stars are aligning as such.
“We will send her to Hugo Palmer, he can train sprinters and you could see her whipping around Chester in the Lily Agnes.”
Of progeny by Havana Grey, he said: “They are all ears back, head down, sound horses who keep running for you. We are really taken by them, we got a bit lucky that we stumbled on him at the right time and we threw plenty of Havana Grey darts at the board and come up with 180! They are good honest horses and delighted to get another one.”
Born in April, the filly is a a half-sister to the three-time winner Show Me Show Me, third in the Molecomb Stakes (G3), and out of the Bertolini mare Springing Baroness. She is a half-sister to Toocoolforschool, winner of the Mill Reef Stakes (G3).
